Teethng, Baseball and Sprinklers

Sunday morning Aaron had just a couple of patients to see, so he went in around 8:00.  I got the kids ready for church (baths and all - because we hadn't done them the night before) and on time to church, and Aaron was there waiting for us.  I should remember what the talks were about but I don't.  Something about General Conference I think.  I remember having to leave during Sunday School to get Melanie to sleep, or maybe it was to feed her.  Either way I got back in time to eat one of Br. S*'s cookies.  Cheryl taught the lesson in Relief Society, and it was great.  Aaron stayed for BYC after church and I took the kids home to get some lunch ready.  Aaron got home in time to eat with us.  The rest of the day is kind of a blur.  I do remember that we were getting ready for FHE and Aaron was playing with Melanie and said - she's getting her bottom teeth!"  Sure enough there were two little white bulges.  No wonder she was so fussy the night before.  I think we Skyped with my parents that night.

Monday was another busy day.  During breakfast I felt Melanie's gums and one of those teeth had broken through.  The other one cut that evening.  I decided not to go to the city since we were just there.  I thought about going to Pilates, but ended up just using the bike.  I am seriously considering getting an elliptical.  I think I'll get a better workout, and being almost 20 lbs below pre-pregnancy weight I think my knees can handle the weight now.  However it's still gentler than a treadmill.  I wonder if I can find one on craigslist.  I think we ran out to Safeway later in the day. That afternoon was really busy with snack, piano lessons and a baseball game.  We got there around 5:00.  Aaron came as soon as he could.  I had the camera, but never really had time to take pictures.  Our team wasn't playing well again.  It's mostly the pitching - too many walks, and wild pitches etc.  However the highlight of the evening was David finally getting that base hit.  Another time he put the ball in play, but was tagged out at first base, and the runner on third didn't score since it was the third out.  Toward the end of the game we were almost certain David wasn't going to get up to bat again (he was 8th in the order or something like that).  Aaron had some work to do, Amy and Timothy both begged to go home with him.  So he took them home, and they got ready for bed, and I waited for David with Melanie.  They ended up going through more batters than I expected, and scored a couple of runs, but not enough to win, and David didn't get to bat again.  However as the home team the kids were expected to take care of the field after the game.  I realized too late that Aaron too the kids, but nothing else, so I had several things to carry to the van.  After my second trip two other moms helped me carry the last of it to the van.  I waited for David to finish working the infield and then we got home around 8:20.  I went to switch the sprinklers and every line was having problems.  Of course Aaron realized it was because the filter was clogged.  So we cleaned it out and found two lines that were working, or so I thought.

Tuesday Aaron had a presentation at a clinic about 35 minutes away.  So he left a little earlier than usual.  I switched the sprinklers again and found that one of the sprinklers quit working at some point, so I had to get a hose out there with another sprinkler, and fix the one that was broken.  The time I usually spend exercising while Melanie is sleeping I spent working on the sprinklers.  I gave up on my workout when she woke up 2 minutes after I came inside.  I took Amy to preschool and then my visiting teachers came over.  Melanie slept after that and I did stuff at home.  Celise was hoping the goat would give birth to her babies so the girls could see them, but she didn't go into labor until right after the girls all left.  They did get to play with the ducks, chicks and bunnies though.  There was no cub scouts that afternoon, so we went to the library.
I tried to get a picture of Melanie's little tooth.  I can barely see it.

Wednesday I had thought about going up to the city again, but realized I didn't need much at Fred Meyer, so I stayed home.  Amy and I played and did laundry, and eventually a package arrived - stuff for the lawn mower.  Aaron came home early because the intranet at work was out of commission.  Not much else really, baseball practice for David, Scouts for David and mutual for Aaron.

Thursday was another busy day.  Aaron took the kids to school and talked with David's teacher about a project she wants him to help with.  I spent the morning trying to clean up the kitchen.  We dropped Amy off at preschool a little earlier so Aaron and I could run errands in the city.  First we picked up more bark mulch and a couple other things at Home Depot.  Melanie stayed asleep.  Then we went to Costco.  The main reason we went was to get me a new phone.  We've talked about it for months.  Our home phone was through Verizon as well as Aaron's mobile phone.  The home phone was eligible for an upgrade.  So we got rid of the home phone completely, and I no longer use my pay as you go phone.  It may go to David someday- Shhh don't tell him.  Th biggest benefit will be the unlimited talk and text.  We have small data plan, but we don't use it much.  At home and church (and other places) we can use wifi to cut down on the data usage.  So I now have a smart phone.  It's a newer version of Aaron's phone. So I'm familiar with it.  We used our Costco rewards to pay for the phone - or most of it anyway.  Melanie woke up while we were in Costco, so I let Aaron check out and I fed her in the van.

We had just a couple minutes to unload the van and go pick up Amy before the countertop guy came over.  It was hard to drag her away from the newborn goats and bunnies etc.  With our tax return we have thought about doing one of several home improvement projects.  We had someone come out and give us an estimate on replacing the kitchen countertops.  Now we have to decide which project we want to tackle this year.  We can't do all of them.  That afternoon Aaron had some work to do (that he couldn't do the night before because of the server issue).  I found out that my visiting teacher had fallen and broken her shoulder.  She's had various medical issues lately and now she has one more.  I hope they decide she doesn't need surgery.  She's also the organist at church, so we might have to use the piano for a while or use the automatic player, hmmm.  We made some sourdough sandwich rolls and got ready for David's game.  It was about 25 minutes away and we were rushing to get out on time.  We got there in time for David to warm up with the team which gave us a good 30 - 40 minutes to spare.  I was glad there was a playground for the kids.  Melanie was still sleeping, so I took Timothy and Amy to the playground while Aaron stayed with Melanie.  Just before game time we headed back to watch David's game.  It was the same team they had played the week before.  We had gotten beat pretty bad.  However this time our boys were getting hits.  We had one inning where the entire team got up to bat so we ended the inning.  It was a good game.  There were mistakes, but the boys had fun.  Melanie woke up just as I was about to eat my dinner.  She was a little more fussy than usual so I ended up standing a lot with her.  Amy and Timothy had fun on the other baseball field running around and playing with the other kids.  After the 4th inning it was getting dark and the umps asked the teams if they should keep playing.  That particular field has lights so they wanted to play one more inning.  It was a late night, and we got home around 9:00.

Friday I got my exercise in and then we did a little grocery shopping. I can't remember if we did anything else exciting.I really can't think of anything...Aaron wasn't on call, we didn't have a date or watch a movie.  Just a boring Friday I guess.

Spring Music, Planting and Spring Fling

Suddenly I'm a week behind again. Last Thursday Aaron had the day off.  I was able to get my work out in before taking Amy to preschool.  Melanie stayed home with Aaron. (She turned 6months old that day)  Aaron got some work done and then mowed the lawn.  I got some things done around the house and took Melanie to pick up Amy.  I don't really remember what else we did other than Aaron and David went to his game around 5:00.  Aaron manned the snack shack.  We arrived a little later after some dinner.  We enjoyed the game, however our team didn't play well, and David was upset when he struck out.  I think he got walked once.  The other team scored a lot of runs.  I forgot the camera, so no pictures.

Friday.... I'm struggling to remember other than Aaron texting me to see if I could get a babysitter for Saturday night.  I ended up getting two babysitters.  The event was the annual Spring Fling.  Apparently the hospital was a sponsor of the event, so they got 8 tickets or something like that.  Of course it's a 21 and older kind of event, so Melanie was not allowed.  Luckily our friends Philip and Julianna live less than a block away from the event, so I was grateful they agreed to watch her, even though they are going through a tough time right now.  Oh wait, I remember what else we did.  I had to go up to the city for a few things, but I decided to take out the recycle first.  It was getting out of hand.  I debated whether I had time or not, but decided to do it anyway.  While I was dumping the paper I found a flyer for the Spring Music assembly for Timothy's class.  It was that afternoon!!!  I thought I'd put it in the calendar, but apparently I forgot.  If I hadn't taken out the recycle I wouldn't have seen that paper in time.  So after running errands we went home and ate lunch.  Then the girls and I went to the music performance.  They did some of the old school House Rock songs.  Timothy was one of the kids who had a little line in the production.  He got to say, "I know let's do School House Rock!".  I took some pictures and videos.  However the videos are awful because I was trying to watch the kids instead of the camera, so it's not on the kids the whole time.  Toward the end Melanie was fussy and grabbing at the camera.  She was supposed to sleep, but she didn't.  We ended up bringing Timothy home 30 minutes early since we were there, and I had to let David know Timothy wouldn't be on the bus.  That's what we did on Friday.
 Getting ready for the show
I'm not sure why he's standing like a soldier
and why they put him next to the tallest girl
 There's a smile!

Melanie enjoyed the show - she is always scratching her face :(

 My cute boy!

Heading back to class!

Saturday we did chores in the morning, and Aaron was on call, so he went to the hospital in the morning.  We had a good lunch and in the afternoon we decided to finally plant the garden.  It's just too hard to get in there and do it myself with Melanie.  I was worried about Max digging it up, so Aaron and David put up some chicken wire around it.  Max could jump over it if he wanted to - it's only 2 feet high, but so far he's stayed out.  So Aaron did the potatoes and onions (the only thing I had to buy this year), and I did the peas, beans, carrots, lettuce and Swiss chard.  Timothy and Amy helped me with the beans and peas.  I haven't taken pictures, so I'll have to post those after I taken some.

One of the things I picked up in the city was 16 bags of bark mulch for the landscaping.  We thought that would be enough, but it wasn't. Aaron and David spread that around that afternoon as well.   Aaron was checking in with the hospital throughout the day, and he found out a baby was born so he went in right away so we could still make our date.  Rebecca came over around 6:15.  I fed Melanie and pumped too, and then headed over to Phillip and Julianna's.  Aaron arrived just after I got there we dropped her off together.  Then we met up with friends at the Spring Fling.  It was basically an all you can eat buffet.  Shrimp and cocktail sauce, veggie trays, fruit trays, a chocolate fountain, BBQ  pork sandwich sliders, chicken salad on tortas, crackers, warmed brie, spinach dip, grilled oysters with fresh salsa, and a bunch of other things I can't remember.  We had two free drink tickets, but all we drank was water.  We sat with Ivana & Kevin, and Adi & David.  Our table was right next to the fruit and chocolate fountain, and the oysters were being served on the other side of the barrier, so we just reached over rather than walking around.  We talked and had fun, until the band started.  The music wasn't bad, but we couldn't hear each other.  So Kevin invited us over to their home to continue the conversation.

First we picked up Melanie who apparently had been crying for an hour, but finally fell asleep.  They offered the bottle, but she didn't take much of it.  We felt bad that they had to take care of a screaming baby.  We got her in her seat and headed home to drop off the car.  No need for two vehicles at that point.  Aaron also grabbed some hot chocolate since Kevin mentioned having coffee.  We chatted for about 90 minutes or so, and Melanie slept the whole time.  We got back home around 10:00 and I took Rebecca home.  Melanie slept until midnight!  What a night!  It was the 14th anniversary of our first date, and we got to go on a date without Melanie - for at least part of it.  And she was asleep for the rest.
