Melanie isn't the only one that enjoyed the veggie tray. Amy loved the peas, but wouldn't eat the shell. You can see her little shiner there under her left eye.
Friday was a good day. After Melanie's nap we went to the store to pick up ice and a couple of other things for Aaron's campout. When the boys got home I encouraged them to do their chores and to get the play room clean so we could do something fun in the morning. They seemed to think they could get it done in the morning, so not much got done that night. Aaron got home around 6:00 and then took off the with scouts. I had made a pizza for us at home. I can't remember what else we did that night. As usual (when Aaron is not home) I stayed up way too late. I did get some things done though.
Saturday I had told the kids about the Family Expo up in the city. It sounded fun to them so they were motivated to get things done. David got his chores done early, and then disappeared. It turns out he was down cleaning the playroom (not something he was asked to do). I still had to light a fire under Timothy to get him to get going. Amy and I worked on her room, and then I cleaned the kitchen with Melanie under foot. I was pleasantly surprised that they got it done under the deadline. I was really hoping Melanie would fall asleep on the way there. She did, for the last 5 minutes, but didn't transfer to the stroller. So she was wide awake. I was glad we got there early (about 10 minutes after it opened). There was no wait for the bounce house and other activities. Amy has always wanted to go in the bounce house, but until now she wanted me to come with her. I guess after testing out the one at Aleya's she was confident enough to do it on her own.
Documented proof she did it!
Most of the stuff was for little kids. David was getting bored. He saw the laser tag, and wanted to play, but when it said $5 he didn't ask. He'd done a lot to help out that morning, so I gave him some money and told him to go play laser tag. It's kind of odd to let him wander off on his own in an unfamiliar place, but he's responsible enough, I just need to let go. So I had fun with the Timothy and Amy at the Science center display.
Melanie stayed in the stroller for the most part.
Amy loved building with the kaleidoscope one
David found us a little while later, and we wandered around to different booths, the kids always want the free stuff, and Timothy wanted to play the games. It was no surprise that the kids wanted to stop at the library display where we stopped next. Melanie found a copy of Brown Bear Brown Bear, so we read it again and again. David wanted to watch the martial arts demonstration, so I let him go again. Then the kids wanted to find the robotics/LEGO station. David and Timothy had a lot of fun with that. Amy wanted to watch the clown (another surprise). Then she really wanted to do the bounce house again. I told her she'd have to wait in line, and she agreed. So I told the boys where I would be and we waited about 15 minutes for the bounce house. It was noon by then, so we went back in and had to drag David and Timothy away from the robotics/LEGO station.
I had to get a picture of the one Timothy built. He wanted to take it with him. Since he couldn't a picture is the next best thing.
I was surprised that Melanie didn't fall asleep on the way home. So we had a late lunch, and then I put her down for a nap. I did a little more clean up before the scouts came home from their campout. Aaron needed to be home by 2:30 because he had to go to the Priesthood leadership meeting for Stake Conference. Now that they are inviting everyone 12 and up our babysitters are no longer available. So Phillip and Julianna offered to babysit for us. After assuring us they were fine with it, we took them up on the offer. I fixed a quick dinner, and pulled out the new Frozen movie for them to watch. I picked up Betsy and Madeline and we drove to the stake center. We got there just as it started. Loren and Aaron had saved us seats. I really enjoyed the evening session. They had three panels; youth, new members or recently endowed members, and missionaries. It was great! We also heard from Pres. B* and a few others. The music was a youth choir. Afterward we stopped by one of the yogurt shops. Apparently we weren't the only ones with that idea. Another 3 families from a ward south of us arrived just after us. Aaron knew one of them as a physician at a different hospital. We chatted for a bit, and then got our yogurt. It was fun, but we were both tired, so we headed home and let Phillip and Julianna take AJ home - he was sleeping so peacefully when we arrived. Julianna had to unswaddle him to buckle him in. He fussed for a bit, and then she gently swung the car seat and got him back to sleep. I think she's got this mom thing down!!! We are so blessed to have great friends like them!
