Garden Harvest and a Few Things I Missed in May

I didn't want these to get buried in the garden post.  Here are some things we've harvested in May.
The first strawberries we picked on May 19.
more strawberries on May 21st

I also thinned the apples on the 21st

Melanie and Michelle helped me pick these strawberries on May 30th

Oh, and a funny story.  I already mentioned that Allison loves to pick up worms.  However this day she decided to give the worm a kiss, so gross!

We had another crazy storm that blew through Saturday afternoon. I watched out the front window as our neighbor lost three trees. Luckily they didn't damage any cars, or the house. Somehow we only lost this lily. Haha!

Aaron drove around town after the storm to check on the damage and see if anyone needed help cleaning up. He saw a lot of downed trees especially the decorative plum trees. There were several down in the cemetery and in the park, as well as one at the intermediate school.

Sunday was a little different. Aaron went to help a couple of widows in the ward that had lots of tree limbs to clean up. Several other people came to help. Timothy offered to help (David wasn't feeling well), so I dropped him off at their house, and he came back with Aaron when they were done. Typically we have church between 10 and 11 am. That day we had church at 3:30 or something like that.  Several people were without power. Wendy and Dave came over later that evening to borrow a generator since the'yd been without power for almost 24 hours. They just live on the other side of the canal. They pointed out the trees on their property from our house. Less than a mile away, and we had power and they didn't. I'm glad we could help them out, so they didn't lose all the food in their fridge and freezer. Wendy's parent's helped them out with showers and meals, they finally had power on Monday night I think. Over 48 hours. That's the problem with this kind of storm. It wasn't a transformer that went out and they just had to fix one thing and then the power is restored.  There were lots of downed lines from fallen trees and tree limbs.  I think we were really lucky not to have more damage. Blessed, really.
