Marshmallows and The Fair

Saturday David wanted to invite Kyle over to have a baking contest. They decided to make homemade marshmallows. David slept in and rushed to finish his chores before Kyle arrived. They had fun and made a mess, but cleaned it up. They ended up making four flavors of marshmallow - lemon, strawberry, chocolate mint and cinnamon.

We ate some, and saved some, and sent some home with Kyle. It was a fun afternoon for them. I don't remember what the rest of us did that day. That evening was the General Conference Women's Broadcast. There was a wedding reception afterward, so Aaron, Amy and I went a little early to set up. Aaron did some cleaning too, since it didn't look like it had been done. Only Heather S* came to watch the broadcast. I really enjoyed the broadcast, and then we waited for a bit for the reception to start. Teri's son (last one to get married) had gotten married two weeks earlier in Utah, and they were hosting a reception that evening. It was beautiful. Lots of fun pictures. Rose had made her dress, and Teri had made a beautiful quilt for them! They had croissant sandwiches (ham and Swiss or BBQ pork) and veggies skewers (black olive, baby dill pickle and a cherry tomato), and beautiful cupcakes with chocolate rocks, or blue rock candy on top. They like rocks apparently! Amy loved the veggie skewers. Although she got really bored since we seemed to be talking to a lot of people. Just as we were about to leave Pres H* and his wife arrived, so we stayed a little longer. Eventually we got home probably around 8:00.

Sunday was fun as well. I had to meet early to practice singing with the Young Women in church. We sang "There is a Green Hill Far Away." We picked that one because there are many who don't feel comfortable singing high notes, and there aren't any notes higher than a C in that hymn. We had our teacher's council class during Sunday School. Then I taught a lesson on why it's important to be honest to the Beehives. After church we had a pot luck. I think I brought a chicken fajita soup, and cookies. It was delicious as always. I love these get togethers. It's fun to chat with people enjoy a great meal that I only have to cook part of, and then we just have a simple dinner later.

Aaron got home around 5 after meetings and visits. We had dinner and FHE and dessert, and that's  about it. I don't remember much else.

Monday was a day off of school. It's a district directed optional day - whatever that means. They always give the kids a day off during the fair. Usually I enter things in the fair and get a free ticket (or rather discounted since it cost $7 to enter things at the fair. But a ticket is $9. So it's still cheaper. Except I didn't do it this year, and then I found out that adult prices are $15 and David and Timothy didn't want to go. I didn't want to waste $30 on them to have them complain the whole time. So I decided to just take the girls. Amy had finished the reading challenge (easily) and got a voucher for a $1 ticket. Since Melanie and Michelle were free, we all got in for $16! Amy had a gift card from Grammie she wanted to spend we we went early enough to go to Wal-Mart first. Then we stopped by Burger King for lunch and parked at the Target parking lot to catch the shuttle. Free beats $10 for parking at the fair. So we ate lunch while we waited for the shuttle. The girls love riding the bus.

We arrived just as the gates opened. They always have to play with the ring-a-ding-ling or what ever it is called.

We found the bucket of junk entries. With the pool project I didn't think we had time to do it this year. There were only two entries - I wish we had done it. Oh well.
There was some amazing wood carving art!
They found the flowers in the horticulture building.

In the Ag building they had a place to color with markers. The girls loved it!

You could also take a picture on the tiny toy tractor

We went to the petting zoo

In the kiddie area Melanie and Michelle loved the corn bin

Amy was too tall, so she climbed on the tractor

 They played with stick horses

 And rode on saddles

 and played on the train

They played in the pretend grocery store
There was a rabbit photo frame in the rabbit/duck/chicken etc. shed

And of course sheep in the 4H shed

After looking at all of the animals Michelle fell asleep, and we walked back over to the Ag building for some ice cream. We ran into Shannon, Michael, Brooklyn and Brynn. So we shared a table as we ate our ice cream.

They colored some more before we headed over to the STEM building
They played giant connect four, and giant jenga, and made some straw rockets, and watched the 3D printers, and got a couple squirttles (pokemon).  They also made some slime. Then we walked over to the dome and found a couple of things to buy for the girls. I was exhausted, and it was getting close to dinner time. So we headed to the front and waited for the shuttle. We rode back to the parking lot, and headed home. After dinner I realized I hadn't gotten a picture of Michelle for turning 23 months! Of course Melanie wanted to be included too.

It was a long and fun day.
